The 10 Largest Foods on the Planet

One thing everyone in the world has in common is their love of good food. For this reason, we thought we’d take a look at 10 of the largest foods on the planet, according to the Guinness World Records. The following records are crazily big!

1. The Longest Sausage

The largest sausage in the world came from Kayseri, Turkey, and weighed in at 1,740kg (that’s 3,8402lb 61oz). Mamma Mia! It was hailed as the world’s largest sausage on 4th October, 2009, and the sausage, which is 35mm (1.3in) long and 1,530 metres (5,019ft 8in) in length, was created by Mehmet Ozhaseki who now holds the record.

2. The Largest Pizza

You would think that Italy would most likely hold the record for the world’s largest pizza, wouldn’t you? When in fact the largest pizza actually comes from South Africa. The baked pizza weighed in at 12. 19 tonnes (26,883lb). The record was made on 8th December, 1990, at Norwood Hypermarket, Norwood. It measured at 37.4 metres in diameter.

3. The Largest Sandwich

Wild Woody’s Chill & Grill in Michigan, USA, secured the record for the largest sandwich in the world on 17th March, 2005. It weighed at 5,440lb (2,467.5kg). The sandwich offered a wide variety of ingredients, including mustard, corned beef, cheese, lettuce and bread. Delicious!

4. The Largest Hamburger

We wonder how many calories are in the world’s largest hamburger that’s from Carlton, Minnesota, USA, and was created by the Black Bear Casino Resort. The record was broken on 2nd September 2012 as it weighed 913.54kg (2,014lb), and included tomatoes, American cheese, lettuce, onions, pickles and bacon. We’ve put on some pounds just thinking about it!

5. The Largest Cupcake

Georgetown Cupcake, a gourmet cupcake bakery in Virginia, USA, smashed the record for the largest cupcake on 2nd November 2011. The Guinness World Record attempt was shown on the bakery’s documentary series on the TLC network. The cupcake weighed 1,176.6kg (2,594lb). We wouldn’t know whether to grab a spoon or just jump in head first!

6. The Largest Bagel

Bruegger’s Bagels record for the world largest bagel hasn’t been broken since it was made on 27th August 2004. The 868lb bagel was then displayed at the New York state fair in Geddes, New York, USA, for public view. New York really does offer the best bagels in the world!

7. The Largest Cheesecake

Philadelphia Cream Cheese created the world’s largest cheesecake in New York, USA, and broke the record on 21st September 2013. It was created using Philadelphia Cream Cheese on a Graham Cracker crust, and Duff Goldman from Charm City Cakes revealed the record-breaking treat. It weighs a whopping 3,129.787kg and is 2ft 7inches tall.

8. The Largest Meatball

Now that’s a beautiful meatball! Can you believe this creation is 503.71kg? That’s a huge 1110lb 7.84oz! The Columbus Italian Club in Ohio, USA, is the proud record holder of the meatball that was created during the St John’s Italian Festival between 5th and 8th October 2011.

9. The Largest Cookie/Biscuit

The Immaculate Baking Company proved just how flawless they are when they created the world’s largest cookie (or biscuit to us Brits). The bakery, located in North Carolina, USA, challenged the current record holders on 17th May 2003 and won with their 754 metre squared creation. The cookie weighed 18 tonnes and had a 30.7 metre diameter. We could eat that, no problem!

10. The Largest Chocolate Bar

Thortons are renowned for their delicious chocolate, so it probably comes as no surprise that they hold the record for the largest chocolate bar in the world at 5,782.50kg. It was created in Derbyshire, England, on 7th October 2011 and was 13ft 1.48inches. We could eat that in a day!
